Can we just have them start later, please?

It’s been a couple of years since I first brought this up at our school board.  It didn’t even pass the committee level, unfortunately.

And yes – I know that it will be a lot of work and a lot of negotiating to get everyone to buy into the whole idea of it – but!  The bottom line is that there has been enough research already that proves that teens need a later start in the day!

“There’s biological science to this that I think provides compelling evidence as to why this makes sense,” said Brown University sleep researcher Dr. Judith Owens, the study’s lead author and a pediatrician at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, R.I.

Some studies have even shown that we can expect a healthy increase in the overall success rate if we just make the change.

I wish we could just get on with it and make the change.  Why not?

(Full disclosure:  I have 2 kids in high school.  They both get up early and they are both on the honor roll – it’s not for me personally, this change…)
