Community Breakfast at Rosemere High School

For the second year running, the community breakfast was very well attended.

The staff did a fantastic job; the leadership students were great and the RHS concert band played great!

PPO was there with a bake sale table of goodies too. 🙂

It was fun to see all the familiar faces, and surprising again to see kids I’ve known since K even taller than me!

Well done RHS and happiest of holidays to all. 🙂

Ranee Lee at Rosemere High!

Ranee Lee was live at RHS tonight for a benefit concert in support of the The Children’s Wish Foundation.

Simply put, she was amazing!  What a voice!  What a presence!  What a performer!

To be honest, I was not familiar with Ranee Lee before I heard of this benefit concert at the school.  I checked with a cousin of mine who is a “jazz guy” and he told me that she was phenomenal.  Even with that glowing reference, I was amazed at just how good she is.

My favourite song of the evening was Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now – always a favourite, but wow – what a version this woman did.

We thoroughly enjoyed – could you tell?  🙂

SWLSB Council votes for 9 elected commissioners

Congrats to our Board!  Even though there was fair debate on the question and even though ideas ranged from, “Ask for the max”, to, “Ask for two more – what is there to lose?!” – reason won the day and there really was no real argument to have 11 over 9 elected commissioners – or of all silly things, 15 of them.

The only reasonable argument could have been the size of the territory for those commissioners up north – heck, even my ward is massive and will be getting bigger.  But the fact of the matter is, the election act says that wards can only be sized plus or minus 25% of the electorate – so even if we were to apply that at its best for up north, those wards would still be massive.  So – what’s the point?

I am looking for a much leaner council next term and I am hoping to see a much tighter work flow.  This is good news for our Board – and I think it shows that we have taken a leadership position in this province.

Truly,

Steve

Education Department bonuses

Well done guys.  Big bonuses for already over paid jobs in Quebec City.

Meanwhile, we struggle in the halls of our schools – just for a basic level of education.

It’s just not right.  Figure it out.

At Rosemere High for a performance from McCaig’s junior choir this morning!

60+ kids on stage – and wow! They’re amazing! Year after year, Joanne Thomas and her team do the most incredible job with these kids.

Wow! 🙂

Olympic Flame passes RHS!

The Olympic flame passed right in front of Rosemere High School today – all the students were allowed out of classes to watch – very neat stuff!
